16Mn is the steel grade with the highest consumption and production of low alloy high-strength steel in China. The microstructure in use is fine-grained ferrite pearlite, with a strength about 20% to 30% higher than that of ordinary carbon structural steel Q235, and an atmospheric corrosion resistance of 20% to 38% higher.
The most commonly used steel grade in 15MnVN medium strength steel. It has high strength and good toughness, weldability, and low-temperature toughness, and is widely used in the manufacturing of large structures such as bridges, boilers, and ships.
After the strength level exceeds 500MPa, the ferrite and pearlite structures are difficult to meet the requirements, so low-carbon bainitic steel has been developed. The addition of elements such as Cr, Mo, Mn, and B is beneficial for obtaining bainite structure under air cooling conditions, resulting in higher strength, better plasticity, and welding performance. It is commonly used in high-pressure boilers, high-pressure vessels, etc.
